Theme- 4 牧野班 Team MAKINO

Development of behavioral intervention systems using remote tactile stimulation and two-dimensional communication, and motion analysis based on behavior prediction

We will focus on two research themes: (1) the realization of an intervention platform that is unnoticeable to animals and (2) understanding and application of mutual intervention between humans and animals. For (1), we will approach the realization of an environmental χlogbot that can be used practically in this entire project by (a) remote intervention using airborne ultrasound tactile stimulation and (b) research on the basic technology of a behavior observation platform using two-dimensional communication. As for research (a), Team Hiryu in A01-2 (targeting flying bats) and Team Takahashi (targeting moving mice) will conduct invisible interventions on small animals. Drosophila larvae will be targeted by our team, and their behavioral range will be restricted and carefully inspected, while keeping them easy to observe through invisible stimuli. In research (b), we will develop a two-dimensional communication sheet suitable for the observation of various animals and build a wiring-free measurement environment to observe and control small animals. The physical team (Team Yoda in A01-1 and Team Nishimori in A01-4) will apply the technology to the data logging of birds and insects. To understand and apply mutual intervention between humans and animals in (2), we will focus on the relationship between humans and guide dogs and elucidate how different the behavior of dogs is induced by experienced trainers and beginners. Using a wearable χlogbot, the tendency and characteristics of a dog’s behavior are extracted through the motion of a harness, and we will analyze their movements by applying the behavioral model developed by the Cyber Team.
